So it’s ‘Carry on Bercow’. All our favourite characters are back – puce faced and posturing. Some of the most badly behaved are apparently uploading their antics onto social media, as if the original behaviour wasn’t shameful enough.

As a good Catholic boy, I don’t normally quote Oliver Cromwell but his instruction to the original “rump parliament” is as relevant to this one. “You have sat too long for any good you have been doing, In the name of God go!”
