SIR,
It is a shame that the evident pleasure the owners of 250 caravans had at their rally in Vauxhall fields over the bank holiday weekend caused such a disruption to the enjoyment of the holiday for residents in Monk Street and Osbaston Road.
Activities took place over four days starting each morning with speeches, competitions, applause and laughter all amplified into our gardens and houses. We were regularly invited to congratulate on birthdays and aniversaries and were reminded of the timetable, when bars were open and on the results of the competitions.
Each evening to after 11pm and on Monday to after midnight we were treated to kareoke and a disco at full volume! Bright floodlights shone straight into our windows.
It was dificult to enjoy our normal pastimes of sitting in the garden and enjoying our own music in our houses. This experience begs many questions: Why were local residents not informed of this event? Why was it necessary to use a tannoy to make so many announcements? Why was the music so very loud? Was there any one of the organisers who took responsibiltiy for the well-being of local residents?
Might I suggest that when future events take place their planners meet with the residents to agree some ground rules so that everyone can enjoy themselves.
