GWENT Police has seen more thefts from unattended, secure and insecure motor vehicles in the Caldicot and Chepstow area

recently.

There were several vehicles broken into at Channel View, Bulwark in Chepstow, overnight on Saturday 16th May. Money was stolen from the console of one of these vehicles.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "Many thieves are opportunists who look for an easy target.

"Gwent Police continues to work to tackle vehicle crime, but we cannot do it alone."

The police has provided a few pieces of advice to help keep your vehicle and belongings safe.

Keep items out of view – remove items from your vehicle when you leave it unattended, even small items such as small change, can tempt a thief.

Use an alarm/immobiliser – if your vehicle has one of these, remember to use it. If not, have one fitted, or use an anti-theft device, like a steering wheel lock.

Lock all doors and windows – ensure your vehicle is locked properly. Most insurance companies will not cover theft if the vehicle was insecure.

Keep your sat nav safe – remove sat nav devices and their holders from unattended vehicles, and don't leave them in the glove compartment.

Fit an anti-theft device for audio equipment – and if your device is fitted with a "face-off", then this should also be removed from the vehicle.
