SIR,
I am proud and grateful for the work of the NHS and in particular the ambulance service.
But recently I have been saddened to read about the suffering and death caused by the apparent lack of an adequate ambulance cover for Monmouth.
There will always be times in life when several incidents happen at once which no one could predict, but if we start with an inadequate service the only way is down and the risk of further tragedy.
As the financial situation appears to get tighter in the NHS perhaps the townspeople of Monmouth need to work together to solve these problems locally.
Is it possible for us all, the townspeople of Monmouth, to contribute to supporting or improving the ambulance cover for the town by subscription?
I, as many in Wales, contribute via standing order each month to Air Ambulance Wales. Surely a method such as the one already used by Air Ambulance Wales could be used for us to give.
Gone are the hey days of the Rolls family when so much was given to this town by that great family – Rolls Hall etc.
Would that a philanthropist living in the immediate area could be found. Or that one of us could win 44 million in a certain Lottery.
Let's face it, none of these things are going to happen. As the town grows and more and more people come to enjoy living in this area we need to make sure it is safe for townsfolk and visitors alike.
Many years ago money was raised by the town to provide a public swimming pool for Monmouth. Can we replicate this, is subscription by share viable?
If it is then we could all give according to our circumstances, you could contribute a small amount on a regular basis or several shares if you are financially able.
What do you think? Does anyone feel the same way or have any other suggestions?
