SIR, Blood cancer support charity, Leukaemia CARE, is calling for volunteers to help run its 24 hour CARE Line, which provides round the clock support to patients and families who are affected by a blood cancer. CARE Line volunteers are there to offer confidential emotional support and practical advice to those who need it. With the recent recruitment of a Nurse Advisor, the charity is now in a position to expand its CARE Line and is looking for up to 10 dedicated individuals to join its friendly team. The role will be home-based and volunteers will be required to work at different times of the day, including evening and weekends, to fit around their home and other life commitments. No direct experience of a blood cancer is necessary, but successful candidates will need to demonstrate that they are empathetic, caring, non-judgemental and a good listener. Full training and ongoing support will be provided. A diagnosis of a blood cancer can have a huge impact on someone emotionally, as well as physically. Having someone to talk to in the middle of the night, or when others aren't around can be a huge comfort.
