CALDICOT Choir has had a busy time of three concerts in one week to support The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and the Welsh Warrior Charity.
Saturday 1st November saw the choir at a capacity filled St David's Hall Cardiff as part of the massed choirs at the Festival of Rememberance with the Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh, youth choirs and Miss Katherine Jenkins as solo guest artist.
The massed choirs of 450 conducted by Arwel Humphries sang a range of appropriate songs including Morte Criste, Bring Him Home, There is No Death and many more to an appreciative audience of over 1,500 who braved the cold weather to be with the choir on a great occasion for the town and the castle.
The following Friday (7th November) the choir of over 70 members were proud to re-visit All Saint's Church in Long Ashton, Bristol on a wet and stormy night to support the British Legion Poppy Appeal and church restoration funds.
The choir is invited back to this beautiful church every two or three years and always receives a warm welcome from about 200 in the audience.
On this occasion, the event was shared with choristers and musicians from Downs School in Bristol.
The culmination of the week was to join with the Military Wives Choir, Welsh tenor Wynne Evans and local group Rusty Shackle for an open air concert in front of 1,500 at the magnificent setting of Caldicot Castle, bedecked with a light show of poppies playing on the towers.
73 choristers and the music team opened the proceedings with favourites as varied as Welsh hymn Rachie, Bette Midler's The Rose, Eli Jenkins Prayer and African Trilogy and continued with a mixed blend of music to delight and warm the audience.
The Military Wives further thrilled the audience by opening with a war time medley of It's a Long Way to Tipperary, Keep the Home Fires Burning and We'll Meet Again, following up with several items from their wonderful recorded albums.
Wynne Evans' fabulous tenor voice reverberated around the ancient walls with Tell my Father from the musical The Civil War, Impossible Dream and the beautiful Welsh prayer Gelli'r Argwydd, Prayer to the Lord.
The choir is proud that each of the concerts was attended by more than 70 members and is thrilled to have shared the stage with world famous artists Katherine Jenkins, Wynne Evans and the Military Wives Choir in support of such worthy causes.
The choir's next event is to sing at the Millennium Stadium to support the Wales Rugby team at their match with South Africa on Saturday 29th November.
The choir is always keen to recruit new members. Visit http://www.caldicot">www.caldicot
