Monmouth Town Council have rushed to put up the posters in Wyesham at the request of MCC’s Electoral Officer, after the cards, sent out by Monmouthshire County Council, have become ‘lost in the post’.

They were posted out by MCC on June 30 using second class post, but have not been delivered to the hundreds of voters eligible to vote in Thursday’s by-election.

Returning Officer Paul Matthews, CEO of the local authority has been contacted by one of the candidates, Independent Jem Jenkins-Jones, to say the cards informing voters where their polling station is have not been received.

The poster informs voters that the polling station is St James’ Hall and is open between 7am and 10pm.

It reassures voters that they do not need polling cards to vote.

Cllr David Evans told the Beacon: “ The posters were requested to let residents know details of where, when and how to vote. The key point is, residents do not need polling card but need to be on electoral roll. “

Those registered to vote by post received theirs.

A spokesman for MCC said: “Poll cards were sent out on the 30th June but none of the voters have received them. We will try and find out what has happened but they were dispatched as usual and it only came to light over the weekend that they hadn’t arrived. “

The three candidate are: Xavier Turner (Local Conservatives), Jem Jenkins-Jones (Independent) and Robert Kavanagh (Reform)
