It was an evening of magic and music as members of Monmouth’s Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 100th year at The Blake Theatre.

According to records, Monmouth & District Chamber of Commerce and Trade, as it was then known, was formed in 1922 and to mark its centenary the present Chamber of Commerce resolved to host an informal celebration event.

With formidable tenacity and great imagination, largely due to the chair, Sherren McCabe-Finlayson, this was a memorable evening presented to over 100 guests in ‘the best possible style’. Tables groaned under the weight of a magnificent buffet supplied by Monmouth’s own ‘Tasty Trays’.

The glinting gold, twinkling lights, and copious sprinklings of mixed petals that adorned the dining area were matched only by the glamour and resplendent dress of the diners.

Music to dance or simply listen to was provided by The Spitfires, a hugely talented Hereford band with a repertoire comprising some of the most memorable hits of the 50s and 60s.

Award-winning magician The Great Baldini presented his show with all the panache of a Music Hall entertainer, and mesmerised his audience with a range of close-up sleight of hand right through to escapology worthy of Harry Houdini.

All agreed that this was a night to remember and for helping it run so smoothly the Chamber wishes to thank Fiona, Jane, Karen, Louise and Jimmy at The Blake, for their calm professionalism and attention to detail.

Our gratitude is also extended to Monmouth School for making the venue available, and to their great team for ensuring that everything was perfectly staged and ran so smoothly.
