Villagers' fight to keep open their local pub - the Bush Inn at Penallt - has been successful, at least for the time being.
Following overwhelming opposition to a planning application for change of use from a pub to a private residence, The Bush's landlord, Tony McGorrigan, has withdrawn the application, but warned that he will review the situation in nine to 12 months time if he felt there had not made a significant turn around.
"There's been such tremendous support for keeping the pub open that I wanted to try and harness that, times are hard enough for everyone as it is," Mr McGorrigan told the Beacon.
"Everyone wants to keep it open but it's a case of use it or lose it."
Delighted by the decision, former licensee Sian Michael (pictured) said "Whilst this is obviously a welcome outcome, the future of the Bush Inn is still a tenuous one and it is now up to the landlord and the locals to join forces and reinvigorate and restore the Bush Inn to the 'Hub of the village' that it deserves to be."
