Lottery cash has enabled the Ross branch of the WRVS to buy two brand new vehicles which means that organiser, Debbie Griffiths, and her volunteer workers, Pauline Davies and Gillian Creo, can make sure that the sick and elderly are ferried around in style and comfort. A huge crowd of volunteers, users, and invited guests, watched Joyce Thomas MBE DL cut a ribbon strung between the specially adapted vehicle and large bus. Mrs Thomas said: "We owe a great debt of gratitude to Debbie Griffiths and her team loyal band of volunteers who work tirelessly for WRVS. At the very heart of this community is the contribution made by volunteers, they help the elderly, the infirm and the disabled, they work in the charity shops, and other helping organisations. Without them the lives of so many would change dramatically." The WRVS personnel include Herefordshire representative Ruth Nice, Elizabeth Taylor from Devon and Christine Field from Powys, who spoke about the history of the WRVS and its work during the Second World War. Unusually, the sun shone on the ceremony and some people felt the effect of the heat and were grateful for the refreshments in the Larruperz Centre.
