SIR, I do think the county council are increasingly looking like a bunch of jokers, like most politicians they are not interested in what the 'ordinary' person in the street wants and needs, instead, they are there working for their own gratification. Loss of our money in overseas banks, overspends on the new Monnow bridge, planning applications that are way out of line, giving a large part of Chippy away when it was given to the people of Monmouth, charging disabled people for parking is the latest in a line of decisions that are wrong and I am sure discriminating. Instead, they should be looking for people who are using badges illegally and fining people who park in disabled bays when they are not supposed to. Of course there are some people in the ivory tower who are trying their best with one hand tied but many politicians say all the right things to get into a position of authority then drop on us all from a great height. Increased parking charges are the thin edge of the wedge, inviting people into the town instead of driving them away should really be the correct thing to do, I am sorry for the local shops they are the ones who will feel this 'tax' on both visitors and locals alike– do they not pay enough already? It would be nice to see someone take the council to the Disability Rights commission for Wales as this will have a direct effect on real disabled people on low incomes and benefits.
