BRIDGES volunteers were treated to a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings last week.

Asda Logistic Services treated the Community Connection volunteers at their canteen in Chepstow.

Asda's events co-ordinator Mandy Chambers, said: "They do such a great job under the guidance of Heather Whittam the project manager, and I've had the pleasure of maintaining strong ties with this charity since taking up my role nearly three years ago.

"The volunteers are matched with elderly and lonely individuals in the surrounding area, people who often have no family and little contact with the outside world.

"Heather runs a weekly older person's youth club at the Palmer Centre every Monday afternoon. She also does the same gig at Brookside in Caldicot on a Thursday.

"The volunteers collect the service-users and they have a wonderful time with various activities, but more importantly have contact with other people.

"It's a rarity that the volunteers actually get to socialise with each other which made this meal all the more special.

"They are a great bunch of people who do a brilliant job reaching out to the lonely and lonesome."
