FOLLOWING the floods which hit the town last November, Bridges Community Centre have provided an update as to where they are in terms of reopening.

With ongoing planning, surveys and preparations happening behind the scenes Bridges, Monmouthshire County Council and the Council’s insurers are working hard to get the community centre restored so they can continue serving the community once again.

In their previous update they had hoped to reopen parts of the building in autumn 2026 followed by a full reopening in Spring 2027 based on the information which was provided to them at the time.

However, a partial reopening this Autumn won’t be possible and they cannot confirm whether a full reopening in Spring 2027 will be happening. Bridges said they won’t be publishing another date until there is a confirmed programme.

Drybridge House is owned by Monmouthshire County Council who is responsible for commissioning and managing the restoration work and due to the building being grade II* listed there have been detailed surveys and investigations where additional issues have been identified and addressed appropriately to comply with the modern safety requirements.

The Council has appointed an experienced property project management company to oversee the next phase.

Despite the centre not reopening yet, the community shop is open on Monnow Street and the centre will provide another update when they have more information.
