Monmouth Bowls Club entertained Cross Keys in the Gwent Bowls League (GBL) on Saturday and won 2 of the 3 rinks, but were unable to secure the overall win they desperately needed as the final shot count was 48-55, giving the visitors 8 points to Monmouth’s 4. This result, following a home win against Bedwellty Park and a home loss against Croesyceiliog, leaves Monmouth perched only 4 points above Bedwellty Park in the second relegation place. Monmouth will be looking for a home win against RTB Ebbw Vale this week, to lift them away from the relegation zone.

On Monday, Sean Croudace and Haydn Holder continued their progress in the Monmouthshire Bowling Association (MBA) Over-60s Pairs, winning a tight 4th round tie, away at RTB, Ebbw Vale and now have a home Quarter-Final against another pair from RTB. Sean and Haydn have also won their first round in the Wyvern Pairs and the East Monmouthshire Bowls Association (EMBA) Over-60s Pairs.

In Singles competitions, Sean Croudace has won through the first round of the EMBA Singles, beating Martin Seal of Caldicot. In the MBA Over-60s Singles Quarter-Final, Haydn Holder faced the same opponent, and, after an enthralling encounter over 23 ends, Haydn secured the two shots required to take a 21-15 win.
