Chepstow Bowling Club has completed one of its strongest seasons in recent years, with its ladies’ and men’s teams winning four league and association titles, alongside county championship success and promotion to Gwent Bowling League Division 1.
The ladies finished top of both the South Wales & Mon League and the Casnewydd League, completing a league double under Fiona Jackson in her first season as ladies’ captain. “Winning both leagues in my first year as captain has been very special, but what stands out most is the way everyone has supported one another and contributed throughout the season,” said Fiona Jackson, ladies’ captain.
The men also secured two major titles. Chepstow’s East Monmouthshire Bowling Association team, captained by Graham Witchard, retained the EMBA Championship for the second consecutive year.
The club’s Gwent Bowling League team, captained by Mike Roy, were crowned Division 2 champions, earning promotion to Division 1 for the 2027 season.
The ladies added further honours in South Wales & Mon County competitions. Christine Fletcher and Angela Horder won the 4-Wood Pairs Championship, while Fletcher, Horder and Lynne Gipson retained the Olwyn Davies Trophy for the second consecutive year.
The successful 2026 results come as Chepstow Bowling Club begins preparations for its centenary in 2028.
Founded in 1928, the club is planning a programme of centenary events and is exploring improvements to its facilities that could support a wider range of sporting, social and community activities throughout the year.
The proposed centenary project is currently at the planning and funding stage, with the club investigating grant funding, sponsorship, fundraising and community support.
“The club’s success this season has given us real momentum as we plan for our centenary in 2028,” said Sheila Harris, spokesperson for the Centenary Planning Team. “We want to celebrate our history and create something that will benefit our members and the wider Chepstow community for years to come.”
