A Monmouth resident celebrated in style last Monday (24th January) when she turned 100.

Amy Winifred Hawkins, known as Win, was surrounded by family as she opened her card from the Queen.

To mark the occasion, a traditional tea party was held for the her in Redbrook Hall on Sunday 23rd January.

Here, she was treated to renditions of songs from the eras she has lived through by family members and she joined in the fun by dancing to The Anniversary Waltz.

Helping her to enjoy the celebrations were her two granddaughters Tamzin and Hannah, her great granddaughter Mabli and her great grandson Sacha.

She was also presented with a beautiful birthday cake, made by Lynne Freeman.

Win was born in Cardiff in 1911 and she moved to Newport at the age of three. Win married George Martin Hawkins, a commercial artist and sign writer, at the age of 26.

Together they had one daughter Rozi and spent most of their married life living in Rogerstone.

Win worked as a display artist, dressing shop windows and designing floats for Royal Gwent carnivals.

She has lived in Beaufort Farm Cottage with Rozi since October 2010.
