SIR,

Having read the comments regarding the Black Box

that

have been published over the last few weeks in The

Beacon, I feel compelled to add my opinion to the

mix.

As a person concerned for the environment, I always

try

to do my bit with regards to recycling. However, I

feel

incredibly hampered by the inadequacy of the Black

Box

scheme presently used in Monmouth.

Every week I labour through the sorting and re-

sorting of

my recyclables, only to find that, at best, half the

contents of my bin are strewn across the pavement,

and

at worst that the emptying of my bin has been

neglected

altogether!

It was on complaining about this to a friend of mine

who

lives in the Usk area that I discovered they do both

have

the same mess of a system that we use here in

Monmouth.

They apparently have a different system, whereby

they put

all of their recyclables (including my greatest

bugbear,

plastics) in one bag. This means there is no sorting

and no

mess left on the road.

Why is it that this is not the system we use in

Monmouth?

As a high council taxpaying resident I do not see

why I

should have to spend my valuable time faffing over

the

Black Box, when I could use the bag method as my

friend

does.

Please, please, please, will those in charge listen to

residents and see sense in that the black box is a

waste of

our time and effort. I, for one, will not be

participating in

it any longer.
