A BIG cat has been sighted in Trellech, just a week after local boy Josh Hopkins was attacked by what is thought to be a juvenile black leopard.
Denise Lewis from The Narth was on her way from Monmouth to The Trekkers at Trellech on Tuesday morning when she spotted the animal.
"It was as big as a dog and it crossed the road from the ostrich farm to the woods," she said.
"I know the difference between a cat and a dog and it was definitely feline the way it leapt into the woods.
"It was black and only about five to 10 feet away from me."
The sighting has been reported to the police.
On Friday morning, at 11.23 am, a local man reported seeing a very large black cat - as big as a Labrador - on a steep hill at Penyclawdd.
The cat was about 50 yards from him and disappeared into woodland.
Meanwhile a public meeting was held at The Lion Inn, Trellech, on Wednesday night with local police officer Andrew Mason and big cat experts from Zimbabwe to discuss the situation.
