SIR,
Be cool in flaming June and enjoy a weekend of choral music in one of the most beautiful settings in Wales.
The Llangattock Singers, under pianist, conductor and former director of the Buxton Festival, Andrew Greenwood, are holding a midsummer festival in St Cadoc's Church, Llangattock-vibon-avel.
On Saturday 22nd June at 7.30pm, they open with a choral concert featuring Handel's 'Dixit Dominus' and works by Britten and Purcell, accompanied by organ and string orchestra.
Also, on Sunday at 3pm, they will be including William Harris' glorious anthem 'Faire is the Heaven' in their choral evensong, at which the sermon will be given by Rt Revd Dominic Walker, Bishop of Monmouth. The organist for the weekend's music will be Roger Judd, whose distinguished career has included 23 years at St George's Chapel, Windsor.
Saturday's concert is introduced by BBC rugby commentator and former captain of Wales, Eddie Butler, who is helping to raise money for Prostate Cymru. The Da Vinci Surgery System is a wonderful piece of robotic technology and has transformed the treatment of early prostate cancer.
It is widely used in the USA, Australasia and Europe. In England, robotic surgery is available on the NHS. But we do not have it yet in Wales. Many Welsh men have to travel to English hospitals and pay up to £15,000 for this treatment. Our aim is to establish a Da Vinci facility at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, and provide an all-Wales service."
The money raised at Saturday's concert will be donated to Prostate Cymru. Tickets are £10 (under-16s £5) and are available from the Nelson Museum, Monmouth, by telephoning 01600 714926 or at the door on 22nd June.
