A Monmouth youth centre has taken a group of young people on the trip of a lifetime after a big fundraising effort.

The Attik Youth Centre took 17 young people to Disneyland Paris at the end of October.

All the young people involved took part in community fundraising in order to subsidise the cost of the trip, including bag pack a sessions in Iceland, sponsored row, sponsored walks and even approached Monmouth Youth Project, who funded a large part of the total cost of the trip.

The trip was designed for young people from families who experience difficulties in funding trips run by schools due to the high costs; it was paid by the young people's drive to get what they wanted as they worked hard to pay for this trip.

As this particular group of young people are regular attendees of the centre, it was also a reward for their constant engagement within community and intergenerational projects.

During the trip to Paris, they visited Disneyland Paris, Asterix Parc and Planet Hollywood.

Darryl White, a youth worker based at the Attik, said: "This trip has given me inspiration to plan more trips like this, the look on each individual young person's face when arriving at the attractions was magical."

Brooke Bowen, a young person who regularly attends the Attik, said: "Paris was amazing, I had the time of my life and would like to thank The Attik for giving me this experience."

Toni Ballard, a volunteer at the Attik, said: "Going to Paris with this group of young people has given me a great experience as I hope to pursue a career as a youth worker."
