The Monmouth Youth Project's (MYP) Attik abseil has surpassed all previous records and helped them to raise in excess of £2,500.

Other records broken included the event's youngest abseiler, three-and-a-half-year-old Sophie Karman, whose dad Shaun works in Church Street, and Anne Watkins for raising £250 single handedly and battling her way up the staircase, followed by an impressive abseil.

Volunteers on the day included committee members, Monmouth Youth Service staff and young people from the Attik who also provided an excellent cake and drinks stall all day which will boost the funds raised even further.

The organisers' thanks are also extended to all those abseilers who took part and their generous sponsors as well as to all those who stopped and gave donations on the day.

Thank you to Vaisey and Rick from Gwent Outdoor Education who as ever provided the excellent specialist support and to Rick's scouts who helped with equipment.

Funding raised by MYP helps to support an unforgettable trip to Disneyland Paris for 20 young people, many of whom have never been abroad.

For those who are not aware, The Attik has now moved from the bus station to the building next to the library.

• Members and friends of Zen Motorcycle Club, based mainly in Monmouth, were among the brave fundraisers to abseil off St Mary's Church spire on Saturday.

Taking part during her lunch break from Clarke Shoes was Delyth Johns, who had to return to work straight after her jump.

Others taking part were Rob Buckmaster, Bazz Calland, Ken Wells, David Wells, Nick Jeffs, Bob Johns and Pete Marks.
