The use of a cheap alternative to heroin has been linked to the recent attacks on police officers in Monmouth.

Inspector Mike Boycott told Monmouth Town Council this week a number of problems in the town can be attributed to the abuse of street valium.

The tranquilliser, also known as diazepam, when mixed with alcohol in sufficient quantities can cause aggressive and violent behaviour.

The use of valium has been linked to the attack on a male police officer in Monnow Street on 13th September which left him with facial and shoulder injuries.

The drug is also thought to be connected to the attack on two PCSOs on 16th September, in which both were repeatedly kicked in the head.
