The attack which left two special constables needing hospital treatment was the second on police in Monmouth that week.
The Beacon reported last week how two volunteer officers were assaulted after responding to reports of a fight near Chippenham Fields.
The brave officers have now come forward to tell their story in the hope it prompts witnesses to come forward.
But the shocking attack was not the first on a police officer in Monmouth this month. A police constable was assaulted at about 4.25am on Tuesday 13th September after stopping two individuals in Monnow Street.
As the male officer conducted a search on one of them he was assaulted by the other, suffering facial and shoulder injuries.
He was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital for treatment.
The two individuals, aged 20 and 23 from Monmouth, were arrested and charged with section 47 assault and remanded to appear in Caerphilly Magistrates Court on 14th September.
Special Constables Ian Chaffey and Karen Rogers were on patrol duty in Monmouth on Friday 16th September at about 9.50pm.
"We were doing our normal Friday night shift and had confiscated some tobacco from some under-agers on Blestium Street car park," said Mr Chaffey, an IT specialist for a housing association by trade.
"We heard a commotion around the corner and I ran across to it. There was quite a large crowd gathered around an altercation involving a few of the males.
