THE Blake Theatre in Monmouth will be showing a live broadcast of the Met Opera's version of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci on Saturday 25th April.
The enduring tragic double bill sees a new production from Sir David McVicar, who sets the action across two time periods but in the same Sicilian village.
Marcelo Álvarez takes on the challenge of playing both tenor roles of Turiddu on Cavalleria Rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci.
War Horse's designer Rae Smith has designed an atmospheric 1900 village square setting of Cavalleria, which is then turned into a 1948 truck stop for the doomed vaudeville troupe of Pagliacci.
Eva-Maria Westbroek (Cavalleria Rusticana) and Patricia Racette (Pagliacci) sing the unlucky heroines, and Met principal conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium.
The operas by Pietro Masagni and Ruggero Leoncavallo will be shown at 5.30pm on Saturday 25th April.
