SIR,
Andrew Mayo, who complained of the lack of parking spaces around the leisure centre after being ticketed, has a simple remedy to avoid any parking tickets in future.
His answer is to park in a van, on the yellow lines opposite the leisure centre.
The latest Gwent Police publically available yearly figures are that, in 2009, 32 fixed penalty notices were issued for parking offences in Old Dixton Road. All of these were issued to cars with the exception of one, which was issued to a Land Rover.
In 2010, two notices were issued. In 2011, three were issued. None of these was to a van.
Perhaps Mr Mayo would like to ask Gwent Police if they would like to explain why one class of vehicle, which can be seen parked regularly on yellow lines, near the leisure centre, is seemingly exempt from parking fines.
