SIR,
Mr AJ Thomas's letter expressed my objections to this flawed technology most elegantly.
Apart from the visual desecration of the countryside there is a greater problem associated with the construction of these devices.
Neglecting their gross inefficiency, they cannot be relied upon for base load or peak lopping demand because they rely on the wind, which does not blow all the time and, when it does, can be too strong.
It has been reported to me that the wind turbines situated in Newport required the delivery of 60 loads of concrete. That is 120 movements of cement lorries, plus the carbon usage in making the cement, extracting the aggregate and associated transport, making and transporting the turbine and its structure.
Has anyone done a carbon balance? Because it is probable that wind turbines are not very green, possibly negatively ecological.
I think that the whole of Wales be designated an ANOB to put a stop to this lunacy. I wonder what the reaction to a proposal for a wind farm in the Cotswolds would be?
