The Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams came to Monmouth this week as part of a celebration of RE in county schools.The former Bishop of Monmouth was joined on a tour of Monmouth Comprehensive School by headteacher Carole Herman after arriving at lunchtime on Monday (28th March).

For full story see Beacon 30/03/11.He then enjoyed lunch with pupils who had been busy writing essays and letters to earn their place at the table.The Archbishop told the Beacon: "Coming back to Monmouth is really a homecoming."It is great to see some of the things that mattered most to me when I was bishop here, such as the school."It has been four or five years since the last time I came here – I opened a new mosaic in the School Chapel – but I do keep in touch with people here."Dr Williams unveiled the school's new 'Archbishop Rowan Williams' room and went on to give a talk on 'The Big Society'.
