SIR,
Both Mr Hoyle and Mr Cullon-Jones and other correspondents have raised good points over the new recycling scheme.
The main problem is we have no comparable data, so how do we know which scheme is the most cost effective?
It has always appeared to me eminently sensible that the waste was sorted on the lorry that came to collect it. No extra bags to get rid of, no apparent contamination of the paperside of recycling, but not everything was collectable for some reason.
One feels this could have been overcome, as milk containers and bottles are collected and sorted at the County Council refuse facility.
What we need is a meeting with Mr David Harris, in Cwmbran. The cost of the two schemes could then be compared.
There are obviously pros and cons with both systems, but we need facts. The fact that Monmouthshire County Council has not already done something about providing data is surprising. They must have been fully aware of the adverse feelings the change of scheme has produced.
If Mr Hoyle imagines we will get anything out of the Council, without pushing them, I fear he could be in for a very long wait.
