TWO volunteers are heading north on Wednesday 27 August to take on ‘The Three Peaks’ in order to hopefully raise some funds for Manes & Tails, a group of volunteers who used to work alongside Jenny & Alasdair McGregor of the SWHP (Society for the Welfare of Horses & Ponies),

Sue Hughes and Chris Lloyd aim to raise funds for animal welfare groups in and around the local area and into South Wales.

Some of these include: Lluest Horse & Pony Trust, Llangadog. Hungry Herds, Gelligear Common. Forest of Dean Dog Rescue, Bream. Socelex Animal Welfare Society, Newport. Hay Animal Rescue Team. Wildside Exotic Rescue, Nr Ross on Wye.

Manes & Tails also supported the rescue of six ponies (2 mares and 4 very young colts) from a road accident 18 months ago near Ross on Wye. All ponies recovered with excellent care and management, including castration of the colts, and have found excellent new homes this summer.

With the closure of the Redwings premises at Tidenham, Nr Chepstow last autumn Manes & Tails are determined to do all they can to carry on supporting the welfare of horses, ponies and all animals in need in the memory of Jenny & Alasdair.

Sue is a past chairman of the fundraising committee for the SWHP and spent many years both working with the horses at Coxstone Farm near St Maughans and fundraising for the SWHP, including canoeing the River Wye, running The London Marathon, the Racecourse to Racecourse Bike Ride, and cycling from John O’Groats to Lands End accompanied by Chris Lloyd, who for years had a veterinary practice in Ross on Wye and now works as a locum and supported the SWHP on so many occasions.
