MONMOUTH YOUTH made a lot of changes to the side that beat top of the table Talywain the week before, showing the strength of the squad and great competition for each position. The opposition at home were Garndiffaith who play in a division a few above Monmouth.
Monmouth played with the sun behind them but the heavy pitch made quick changes of direction difficult. Play moved from one 'twenty two' to the other in the first ten minutes, then a solid scrum on the half way line saw number 8 and captain Ed Wheeler pick up and feed scrum half Ludo Thomas who showed great pace and balance to take on the defence. Players outside kept their width to help hold the defence, and Thomas with the ball in two hands, 'showed' and went through the gap before beating the cover defence with a step for a great try, from a player who shows real class. Ben Samuels made the conversion.
