Annual awards recognise MCS students for academic achievements

MCS celebrated their academic achievements with awards to students for achievements throughout the year.

Headteacher Hugo Hutchison said that the whole school was “very proud of all our students, and the award-winners are all exceptional individuals who have really shone in a particular area of school life”.

He went on to say: “ As I read through the nominations and the comments written by our staff, I was struck by a common thread. Yes the academic creative and community achievements are outstanding, but what truly leapt off the page was your character.

“The staff did not just write about the end results, they wrote about how you got there. They spoke of your perseverance when tasks became difficult, they highlighted your resilience in the face of setbacks and your quiet steady determination to do your best.

“Crucially they noted your humanity: helping others, showing kindness, maintaining optimism and demonstrating a deep thoughtfulness for those around you.

“These are the qualities that brought you to this stage tonight more importantly they are the qualities that will define your future in the rapidly changing world the strengths are your anchor I urge you to hold on to them nurture them and value them because they are the foundation of a good life, one way you can find genuine happiness on whatever path you choose.”

He finished by saying that the Golden Rule is - Treat others as you yourself would like to be treated.

A moving moment in the awards evening was the Ted Senior Award which was presented by Ted’s mum, Diana.

Ted was Head Boy in 2012-2013 but took his own life in 2018 due to mental health issues.

This year the award goes to Mr Jenkins for a number of reasons first he reached the milestone of 100 blood donations.
