SIR,
It really would be nice if Monmouthshire County Council could explain why it allow one of their lorries to force around six vehicles back down Raglan High Street.
Raglan residents will recall that the council recently re-painted yellow lines on both sides of the narrow High Street, leaving room for a single vehicle to pass through it.
Even though local residents had been complaining for years about the problem.
In October, around six vehicles patiently waited while two sets of traffic, coming down hill, passed by, then set off up the High Street.
A 7.5 ton council truck, after viewing the on-coming traffic from the hill top from his cab, decided to pull out and force the whole line of traffic back as 'he could not reverse, once he had pulled out'. And laughed when he was told that he would be reported for being such a bully and not knowing the recommendations of the Highway Code on giving way to uphill traffic.
He obviously didn't feel that his boss would care less about those that pay his wages, the reputation of MCC and that he is not answerable to anyone. And what do you know - he is right. Because I bothered to write in and ask why he thought that no one would care.
Over a month later, I've still haven't had a reply as to why 7.5 ton trucks need to use the High Street, when they need no access to it - and can easily go down Chepstow Road via the by-pass and turn back.
So MCC, having failed to sort out the congestion in Raglan High Street, why are you now adding to it at peak times in the day, in this bullying fashion with enormous trucks?
My hope is that MCC might reply via the Monmouth Beacon , as clearly writing a letter is just a waste of time.
