PUPILS past and present, parents, staff and governors of Raglan Church in Wales VC Primary will say farewell this month to a school building that has served them for 46 years.

The infants' block will be handed over for demolition on Friday 19th June.

The evening before the demolition (18th June) headteacher Jeremy Piper, the governors and the Raglan History Society will open the school for one last time from 6pm to 8pm so people can reminisce, take photographs with the building as a backdrop, and share memories for future generations.

2015 is an historic year for the school and there is a great deal to look forward to with the opening of its new purpose-built 21st Century School in September. The new school will provide a fresh approach to learning but the excitement of pupils, parents and staff is tinged with a sense of sadness at saying goodbye to their current school site.

Mr Piper said: "We hope that past pupils, families, members of the community and of the church involved in the school will be able to join us to celebrate the life of the infants' building.

"The history of the school plays a huge role in our ethos and identity and it is really important that we continue to acknowledge this while also taking the chance to express a proper farewell."

Councillor Liz Hacket Pain, Monmouthshire's cabinet member with responsibility for schools and learning, said: "This is a very exciting time for Raglan and we're all very much looking forward to the new 21st Century School opening in the autumn term.

"People involved with the school will have fond memories of their time here so it is appropriate that we give them an opportunity to record their memories."
