SIR, As chairman of the Welsh Electors Community Group, it has been brought to my attention that the current county development plan, which is under consultation, includes a suggestion that the sites of the ambulance stations at Monmouth and Abergavenny might be subject to change of use (residential). This might well not be the case, but I would like to remind readers of previous assurances from the highest level that the future of the ambulance station at Monmouth was safe. This was stated in a letter dated April 2, 2007, in which Ambulance Service Chief Executive said they had no plans to close down our local ambulance station. Indeed, with the massive further housing developments which have taken place in the town, and surrounding areas, in recent years, consideration should be given to increasing all public services, such as fire, police and ambulance, not reducing them. I await assurance from those involved that the information I have been given is not correct.
