SIR,
I have read with interest the recent letters in your newspaper concerning the waiting list for allotments in Monmouth.
However, as a current plot holder, I know that the waiting list could be reduced or eliminated by the addition of one new row to the present site at Chippenham Field.
I am told that the adjacent soil is too fertile for the wild flower meadow and would be ideal for vegetable cultivation.
At least ten more tenants could be accommodated on the present site when the County Council takes a more active and intelligent approach to their letting process.
A waiting list of forty is not a credit to the authority when it could so easily fulfil its obligations by giving more time and interest to the provision of allotments for the towns people of Monmouth.
