SIR,

I see people asking the question about the ball hovering over the Rockfield side of Monmouth, distracting motorists and locals alike. It can be seen from quite far away and does look like a UFO.

It is in fact a tethered silver balloon to scare birds, together with a shot gun blast going off several times an hour disturbing locals near to the vineyard at Ancre Hill.

Odd thing is, birds get used to the balloon and bangs but people don't, especially at 8pm at night.

So do not worry, the alien invasion has not started just yet.
