At this year’s AGM, ACE (Action on Climate Emergency) marked an important moment of change for the group. After several years as Chair, Charles Emes has stepped down from the role. Charles has played a key role in driving forward a wide range of ACE projects and initiatives; helping to guide ACE with clarity and purpose.

They welcome Nicky James as their new Chair. Nicky brings a wealth of experience from the charity sector and environment & sustainability work.

Brendan Sweetman is their new Treasurer, taking over from Sarah Read.

Jess Long continues as Secretary, providing valuable continuity and excellent support for the entire team.

During the AGM, members took part in a collaborative planning session facilitated by Chloe Constable.

They reflected on ACE’s journey so far – using “The Tree of ACE” to guide them along. The “roots” explored where ACE began and the foundations that have shaped the organisation. The “trunk” focused on their current strengths—what ACE does well and where their impact lies today. The “branches” looked ahead to future priorities and where members would like to see ACE focus its efforts over the coming years.

The session was highly participatory, with members contributing ideas through a shared brainstorming process. It provided a valuable opportunity to reflect, take stock, and collectively shape the direction of ACE.

ACE (organised by Transition and Amnesty Monmouth) recently supported the promotion of a well-attended hustings event at Monmouth Priory. The event provided a valuable opportunity to hear directly from candidates, with a range of perspectives shared—particularly on issues relating to climate and the environment.

The next ACE open meeting is on Wednesday the 13th May at 7:30pm. It will be hybrid at the Robin Hood Inn Monmouth as well as online via a link available on their website: https://www.acemonmouth.org/
