SIR,
On behalf of the Mayor Councillor Mrs Ann Were and members of Monmouth Town Council I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everybody that took part in the parade to mark the occasion of the Civic Service last Sunday.
There was a great deal of support from a variety of different groups and organisations which helped make the afternoon a celebration to remember. It was wonderful to see such a large group of young people representing the Scout Association.
The theme of the Mayor's address was centred on her desire to actively look for ways in which she can help the citizens of our town live cleaner, greener lives with the help of the other members of the Town Council.
The congregation was reminded that it is the responsibility of governments to create the right conditions to allow us to live in harmony with our environment.
This means every level of government, from the European Parliament right down to Town and Community Councils like ours. We all have a role to play both as individuals and collectively.
Many thanks once again to all of those volunteers who have freely given of their time last week to keep alive this wonderful tradition that Monmouth enjoys each year.
Sarah Robson
Town Clerk
