When Nelson Mandela was in jail, David Cameron went to South Africa at the expense of supporters of Apartheid and I recall that young Conservatives of the time were wearing badges proclaiming 'Hang Nelson Mandela'.
Today we find that although the union flag was flown at half mast over the Shire Hall for the state funeral of Baroness Thatcher, it has stayed in the drawer for that of Mandela.
I feel that this is a sad reflection on those responsible for the chaotic system of flag-flying over our town.
