THE Older People's Commissioner for Wales has praised work being carried out in Monmouthshire to help people living with dementia, following a visit to Dingestow. Commissioner Sarah Rochira's team joined 45 people of all ages, a mixture of people living with dementia, as well as their carers, family and friends, for a fish and chip supper at Dingestow Village Hall. The meeting is the latest in an ongoing series of monthly social events organised by Monmouthshire County Council (MCC), which offers people with dementia a chance to meet others with the condition, as well as providing their families and carers with an opportunity to socialise, make new friends and learn about support available. Sarah said: "As we grow older as a nation, we need to fundamentally re-think how we design and plan our communities so that they are age-friendly and dementia-supportive. "The monthly gatherings at Dingestow Village Hall provide a great opportunity for people living with dementia and their carers to meet others in a similar situation and make new friends."
