Once a tiny tearaway, Sebastian the miniature Shetland pony was on his best behaviour when he visited Monmouth's Abbeyfield home on Wednesday. The pint sized pony came to say "thank you" to Abbeyfield residents in general and Muriel Wordley in particular for their donation to the SWHP horse hospital at St Maughans. Mrs Wordley, who organised a collection of pennies and used stamps to raise money for the horse hospital, was thrilled to meet the little pony. " It was a real treat, I used to be afraid of horses but then I helped my daughter Rosalind look after a pony called Butty who helped me overcome my fear," she said. SWHP Chairman Jenny MacGregor said: "Sebastian used to be a stallion and was very naughty when we first got him. "But he's really sweet now. We had an orphan foal last year and Sebastian was with him day and night, acting like a dad." A resident for life at St Maughans, Sebastian can be "adopted" by people who cannot have a horse of their own. Adoptees receive a photograph and a certificate and are welcome to visit him at St Maughans.
