TWELVE new Special Constables have been welcomed into the Gwent Police family.
Assistant Chief Constable Julian Williams was joined by Magistrate Dr Jonathan Tribbick to welcome the new recruits into the Force at an Attestation Ceremony at Vantage Point House, Cwmbran, at the end of April.
Senior officers from across the Local Policing Areas attended the ceremony alongside representatives from the Special Constabulary, and family and friends of the new officers.
The new Special Constables took their oaths and were presented with their certificates and warrant cards. Each Special has been given details of the communities within Gwent where they will work alongside regular officers.
The Special Constabulary is made up of volunteer members of the public who, when on duty, wear a uniform and have full police powers.
Around 20,000 Specials serve with police forces across the UK, working in all aspects of policing and providing a vital service.
Speaking of the new appointments, Assistant Chief Constable Julian Williams said;
“It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome these 12 men and women to the Force. Special Constables bring with them a wealth of wide-ranging experience, knowledge and skills and their contribution to protect the communities of Gwent alongside their regular colleagues will be invaluable. I congratulate these officers, thank them for their time, commitment and dedication and hope they enjoy their service with Gwent Police.”
