THE school holidays came to a bitter end for the staff and students of Usk Church in Wales Primary school as two of the school’s garden sheds were vandalised.

More than £500 worth of damage was done to the two sheds some time between the evening of Friday 25th August and the morning of Tuesday 29th August.

Gwent Police described the extent of the damage, a spokesperson said: “We received a report of vandalism to two sheds in the grounds of Usk Church in Wales Primary. There was damage to the roof, doors and window of a shed and the door was ripped off another shed which has all amounted to around £550 worth of damage.”

The shocking act of destruction was the last thing the school was expecting to be met with when they returned from their break.

Headteacher Victoria Evans added: “We were devastated to discover the damage but we’re heartened by the way that the Usk community has rallied around. A group of parents came in to clear up the mess and a new playhouse has been donated.”

Councillor Richard John, cabinet member for Children and Young People also added: “We’re bitterly disappointed to learn that a new shed within the infant school garden at Usk has been subjected to this mindless vandalism. There really is no excuse for such appalling behaviour. I appeal to anyone with any information about this crime to contact Gwent Police.”

Anyone who has any information that could help, should call 101 quoting log 414 29/8/17.
