A MONMOUTH woman who has been held in a Portuguese prison for two months after being accused of assaulting a police officer has been released on bail.

25-year-old Sophie Grey from Llangovan was arrested in April following an altercation between her boyfriend, who is also being held in prison, and a police officer.

Miss Grey had previously been denied bail due to concerns about her not having a permanent address in the country.

Her trial date is set for 22nd September, and it is hoped she will be released regardless of the outcome, as she will have already served a number of months in prison. If found guilty, the maximum sentence is a prison term of five years.
