THE community of Magor and the surrounding areas has come together to try tackle local crime.

On Monday 18th December a meeting was held between the public, councillors and Gwent Police at the Magor Baptist Chapel.

Members of the public were able to raise some of their concerns with Gwent Police who could address them directly. Additionally, new schemes were set up address local crime.

Inspector Neil Jones said: “We had a very positive meeting to discuss crime and anti-social behaviour in Magor at the Ebenezer Church yesterday evening.

“As a result of this meeting, Chief Inspector Mike Richards will be funding a Community Crime Panel, which local residents have volunteered to be involved in, and many others registered an interest in the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

“We will continue to engage with local residents and update them on good results or issues that may affect them using The Villager, Gwent Now and a number of other channels.

“I would like to thank the local community for their continued support, it was great to see so many people at the meeting yesterday. I would also like to express my thanks to Councillors Frances Taylor and Lisa Dymock who were instrumental organising the meeting and to Monmouthshire County Council.

“If anyone has any concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour, please contact us on 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
