At approximately 2pm on Saturday 9th February, Gwent Police were called to reports of a youth with a weapon in Monmouth.

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) assisted with the search.

The police helicopter circled over Monmouth for over an hour, hovering over the upper end of town, co-ordinating a police operation on the ground. A BB gun was recovered. No arrests have been made.

•A BB gun is a type of air gun designed to shoot metallic plastic projectiles called BBs â?? metal/ plastic balls approximately 4.6 mm in diameter. The name derives from the size of steel shots used in a shotgun cartridge of BB size.

BB guns use different methods of projection - compressed air or an electrical system - and may or may not be firearms and so may or may not be prohibited.
