WHILE some of the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) team braved snowy conditions in Snowdonia as part of a training exercise those left behind were called out to two searches.

Members of SARA Beachley’s land team travelled north over 20th and 21st January to practice their winter mountain skills in the Carneddau.

The first day was in Cwm Loer, with practice on the steep slopes of The Headwall and finishing at the top of Carnedd Dafydd. The second day, with the snow thawing, saw the team ascent Carnedd Dafydd again from the west via the Crib Lem ridge.

Meanwhile, back at the Beachley base, SARA received two callouts on Sunday 21st January.

At 1.30am the land search team were tasked by Gloucestershire Constabulary to search for a missing vulnerable person but were stood down en route as the person had been found found safe and well by the police.

At 3.30pm that afternoon, the boat, the search and rescue team and land team were tasked by Gwent Police to assist in the search for a vulnerable missing person in the Monmouth area.

The team was again stood down en route when the missing person was found.
