A COUPLE from Osbaston are celebrating 60 years of marriage together. Rhys Probert, 82, and Audrey Probert, 80, will mark their milestone on Saturday 7th June with a family celebration. The pair met at a dance and, after 18 months of courting, decided to get married. Over the 60 years the two diamonds have welcomed two children, Martyn and Beverley, and four granddaughters, Siân, Olivia, Lottie and Bridie. Rhys was billeted to Wellington barracks six months into the marriage, after which he worked in a factory, followed by 29 years at the post office. Audrey worked in a bank and managed the accounts of many local businesses. The duo have enjoyed a dynamic life with their love of athletic activity ever-present in their marriage. The pair have competed in the Kymin Dash, triathlons, fun runs, marathons and half marathons. The Proberts also spent nine years of their life travelling back and forth to Australia where they fell in love with the Gold Coast in Brisbane. They lived in a much loved apartment and surfed most days. The couple still reside in the house built on land in Osbaston Rhys bought when he was 19. Originally a one bedroom bungalow, the house has grown in size for the demands of the family. The pair show no sign of slowing down and still go dancing a minimum of three times a week on top of going to the gym four times a week. Rhys recently completed two A-levels in German and Art where he studied at the Forest of Dean College. When asked about the secret to a successful 60 years together, Mrs Probert had the following advice: "Don't listen to the people who say they don't have a cross word. If you don't argue occasionally you don't have the joy of making up. "We do the gardening together and share similar interests which really helps." Mr Probert said: "I still see Audrey in the same way as when we got together, she's the same person to me."
