CHEPSTOW Youth recorded a fine win under lights at Chepstow Rugby Club last Friday, beating pre-match favourites Croesyceiliog in the Dragons League.

Although Croesyceiliog occupy a higher League position, Chepstow clearly hadn't read the script.

The visitors applied the pressure early on but the solid tackling of the home defence kept them at bay.

But after Chepstow had a player sent off for retaliation, Croesyceiliog made the breakthrough scoring an unconverted try and it seemed Chepstow would be in for a tough night.

A huge effort by the 14 men kept the score at 5-0 at the break and in the second half, Chepstow adopted a never-say-die attitude and took the game to their opponents, scoring two unconverted tries by Tom Bradley and Bailey Wearden.

The visitors fought back to score the next try, but missed the conversion to leave the game finely balanced at 10-10, with 15 minutes left.

Callum Butcher restored Chepstow's lead with a kick-and-chase try, which Simon Dudley converted.

In a tense end to the game, Jay Barrett went over in the corner and Aaron Hossack added the extras to seal a fine victory for Chepstow.

The coaches were full of praise for all 22 players, who were outstanding, with special mention for man of the match, Jack Kedward.
