COACHES Lee and Alex Herring will be going into bat for Monmouth Cricket Club this summer.

The Cricket Wales father-and-daughter coaching team are linking up with Monmouth Cricket Club to promote and develop girls' cricket in the area.

Monmouth Cricket Club are delighted with the link, established by Cricket Wales.

Club vice-chairman Ian Morgan said: "Lee and Alex will both be doing outreach work in primary schools in the Monmouth area to promote girls cricket and act as a link to the club, which is fantastic news.

"Alex is also planning to come to some of our weekly junior sessions during the summer to assist our lead girls' coach, Tracy Hodgson."

Morgan added: "Encouraging girls' cricket in Monmouth is one of our aims at the club this summer and we are thrilled that fantastic coaches like Lee and Alex will be working to help achieve our goal and we thank Cricket Wales for their tremendous support."

Coaches from the club, including Morgan, Martin Newell, Tracy Hodgson and Phil Henshall, were involved earlier this month in the visit of England women's captain Charlotte Edwards, to Overmonnow School.

Monmouth Cricket Club will be hosting a match between Wales senior women and the Army on 4th July.

And the club, sponsored by JD Wetherspoon, are also staging a representative match between Lee Herring's Wales girls under-15 side against their Gloucestershire counterparts on 21st July.

Lee Herring, who runs Dual Role Coaching, is a qualified ECB Performance Coach.

Morgan added: "We are very excited about Lee and Alex's involvement and support.

"They are both aiming to introduce themselves, speak to parents and answer queries at the club's junior registration night at Monmouth Sports Ground on Wednesday 30th April at 6pm."

Meanwhile, Monmouth's senior indoor training continues tomorrow night (Thursday) at Monmouth School Sports Complex from 6pm.

The nets are open to all players who are keen to play senior cricket for Monmouth this summer.
